My Honest Experience Using a GLP-1 | 50 Pounds Lost, Pros, Cons & What’s Next
There’s honestly been a lot of back and forth in my mind about whether or not I wanted to share this part of my journey online. But after thinking about it for a long time, I decided I wanted to sit down and share my honest experience using a GLP-1 for weight loss.. the good, the difficult parts, and where I’m at now moving forward
This post is not meant to tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t do. I’m not a doctor or healthcare professional, and this is simply my personal experience. Everybody’s body is different, everybody’s health journey is different, and I always encourage you to talk with your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication.
But if sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone in their journey, then I feel like it’s worth talking about.

Why I Started a GLP-1
The year 2025 was honestly one of the hardest years of my life.
For seven months, I was helping take care of my mom before she passed away in July. During that season, all of my focus went into caregiving, surviving emotionally, and simply trying to make it through the day.
I completely stopped prioritizing myself.
I wasn’t planning meals.
I wasn’t going to the gym.
I wasn’t taking care of my body physically or mentally.
We ate a lot of convenience foods, went out to eat often, and honestly there were even times I skipped meals altogether because life just felt overwhelming.
Eventually I stepped on the scale and realized I had reached the heaviest weight I had ever been.
At the time, I emotionally didn’t even have the energy or motivation to try to change anything naturally, so I decided to start a GLP-1 in August of 2025.
The Positives I Experienced
I want to be completely honest and say that there were definitely positives for me personally while being on the shot.
Over time, I ended up losing 50 pounds, which honestly made a huge difference in how I physically felt day to day.
Before losing weight, even simple things like going on walks would make my lower back hurt. After losing the weight, I was able to comfortably walk longer distances without pain, which felt amazing.
I also noticed:
- improved confidence
- more mobility
- feeling less sluggish
- less overeating
- reduced food noise
- more motivation to focus on my health
For me personally, it helped give me a jumpstart during a season where I truly felt stuck physically and emotionally.
Some of the Challenges I Experienced
While there were positives, there were also some things I personally struggled with while being on the GLP-1.
One of the biggest things I noticed was just how easy it became to unintentionally under eat.
My appetite decreased significantly, and there were many days where I honestly had to force myself to eat enough food to make sure I was getting proper nutrition.
Toward the end of my journey, I also started noticing increased hair shedding and thinning, which honestly made me a little nervous. I still have a lot of hair, but seeing more shedding than normal definitely caught my attention.
I can’t sit here and say exactly what caused it, but after doing research and reflecting on how little I was eating at times, I realized how important proper nutrition, protein intake, hydration, and overall wellness really are while on a GLP-1.
Another thing I noticed was low energy at times, especially when I wasn’t eating enough throughout the day.
Your body still needs fuel.
That was a huge learning experience for me.
Things That Helped Support Me While on the GLP-1
One thing I tried to prioritize before even starting the shot was getting on a solid vitamin and wellness routine.
Some things that personally helped support me during my journey were:
- staying hydrated
- drinking electrolytes regularly
- increasing protein intake
- taking daily vitamins
- making quick high-protein meals
- using protein shakes on low appetite days
I also really focused on keeping convenient healthy options around the house because I learned quickly that if healthy food wasn’t easy to grab, I was more likely to skip meals altogether.
A few staples I personally loved:
- Fairlife protein shakes
- Liquid IV electrolytes
- rotisserie chicken
- frozen vegetables
- protein smoothies
- microwavable rice
I’ll have my favorite wellness products and supplements linked in my Health & Wellness Shop for anyone interested in the things that helped me throughout my journey.
Coming Off the GLP-1 & What’s Next
As of now, I’ve been off the GLP-1 for about two weeks.
So far, things have been going okay, but I’m definitely noticing certain hunger cues and cravings starting to come back. One thing I really want to focus on moving forward is building healthier long-term habits naturally.
I don’t want to go back to relying on fast convenience foods or sugary comfort meals all the time.
Right now my focus is:
- prioritizing protein
- eating balanced meals
- staying hydrated
- getting back into the gym consistently
- rebuilding strength and energy
- creating sustainable habits
I honestly don’t know exactly what this next chapter looks like yet, but I’m trying to give myself grace and simply take things one step at a time.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I don’t regret sharing this experience.
This journey taught me a lot about grief, burnout, nutrition, wellness, and learning how to take care of myself again after a really difficult season of life.
If you’re currently on a GLP-1, considering one, or coming off one yourself, I hope this post reminded you that everybody’s experience is different and that you deserve to approach your health journey with grace and balance.
Thank you so much for being here and reading my story 🤍
