If there’s one thing about my life, it’s that no two days look exactly the same.
Between working in the emergency room, going back to college, being a wife and mom, and finding time for the little creative hobbies that bring me joy, every day feels a little different. And honestly… that’s one of the things I love most about this season of life.
Right now my life is split between two worlds — the fast-paced environment of the ER and the quieter moments at home where life slows down. Somewhere in between are college classes, photography, coffee, family time, and the everyday moments that make life meaningful.
So today I thought I would share what a typical “day in my life” looks like lately.
My ER Work Schedule
I still work part-time in the emergency department, and it’s something I truly love.
There’s something about the ER environment that keeps you on your toes. Every shift is different, every patient has a story, and there’s always something new to learn. Even after all this time, I still leave work feeling grateful that I get to be part of a team that helps people during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
My shifts are usually 12 hours long, which means they’re full days. When I’m working, my focus is completely on the hospital and the patients we care for.
Those shifts can be busy, emotional, exhausting, and incredibly rewarding all at the same time. It’s the kind of work that reminds you how fragile life is — and how important it is to appreciate the quiet moments when you get home.
College During the Week
Monday through Thursday looks completely different for me.
Those days are focused on college and studying.
Going back to school as an adult has been both exciting and challenging. Balancing coursework with work and family life definitely takes planning, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I love learning and growing in this season of life, even when the schedule gets busy.
Most of my days during the week revolve around:
- -attending classes
- -working on assignments
- -studying
- -reading
- -preparing for upcoming exams
Some days are packed with lectures and coursework, while others give me a little breathing room to catch up on studying or work ahead.
Even though school takes up a lot of my daytime hours, I try to remind myself that this season is temporary — and it’s all part of building the future I’m working toward.
Evenings at Home
One of the biggest blessings of my current schedule is that my evenings during the week are usually free.
After a full day of classes and studying, coming home feels like a reset.
Evenings are when life slows down a little. It’s time to relax, spend time with my family, and enjoy the simple moments that often get overlooked when life gets busy.
Sometimes that looks like:
- cooking dinner together
- catching up on everyone’s day
- relaxing with a cup of coffee
- sitting on the couch and unwinding
These moments may seem small, but they’re some of the most important parts of my day.
Photography and Creative Time
Whenever I get a little extra time in the evenings, I love spending it on my hobbies — especially photography and content creation.
Photography has always been something I enjoy because it helps me slow down and notice the beauty in everyday moments. Whether I’m outside with my camera capturing nature or editing photos at my desk, it’s a creative outlet that brings me a lot of joy.
Content creation has also become a fun part of my life. I enjoy documenting pieces of my day, sharing real-life moments, and connecting with people who appreciate the same cozy, simple lifestyle.
That’s actually one of the reasons I decided to start blogging again.
This blog gives me a place to share life as it unfolds — the busy days, the quiet evenings, and everything in between.
Weekends in the ER
When the weekend comes around, I’m usually back in the emergency department.
Weekend shifts can be especially busy, but they’re also some of the most meaningful days. Working in healthcare reminds you that life doesn’t follow a schedule. Emergencies don’t wait for the “right time.”
And while those shifts can be long, they also reinforce something important to me: helping others matters.
After a full shift in the ER, coming home feels even more special. There’s something comforting about stepping out of the fast pace of the hospital and back into the calm of home.
Finding Balance
Balancing work, school, family, and personal interests definitely takes effort.
Some days feel perfectly balanced, while other days feel like a juggling act. But over time I’ve learned that life doesn’t have to be perfectly organized to be meaningful.
What matters most is being present in the moment you’re in.
When I’m in the ER, I focus on my work and the patients who need care.
When I’m in school, I focus on learning and growing.
And when I’m home, I try to slow down and enjoy the people and moments that matter most.
Why I Started Blogging Again
Starting this blog again feels like opening a new chapter.
Life has changed so much over the years, and I wanted a space where I could share that journey honestly — not just the big milestones, but the everyday moments that shape our lives.
Here on Life by Jessica Lynn, you’ll find pieces of my real life:
- nursing school
- life in and around the ER
- family and home
- photography and creativity
- coffee and slow mornings
- the lessons learned along the way
This blog is simply a place to document life as it unfolds.
Because sometimes the most meaningful parts of life are the ordinary days in between.
If you’re new here, I’m so glad you’re here.
And if you’ve been following along for a while, welcome back.
There’s a lot more life to share.
